Mechanical Fitter Apprenticeship

Programmed, in partnership with Tweed Shire Council has an opportunity for a 1st Year New Entrant Mechanical Fitter apprentice commencing January 2025.

Programmed are seeking motivated applicants that have a great eye for detail, are mechanically minded, have a strong commitment to safety, a passion for the mechanical industry and the drive to commit to a 4-year Apprenticeship.

As a full-time Apprentice, you may be eligible to receive a total of $5,000 in Government incentives under the Australian Apprenticeships Incentive System.

Working as an Apprentice in this trade may see you completing the following tasks:

• To assist tradespersons, carry out mechanical maintenance and servicing of Council's water and waste-water treatment plants, sewerage systems, swimming pools, and miscellaneous pumping systems.


• Remove, maintain and install pump systems.


• Diagnose and repair pumping systems.


• Inspect pumping systems regularly and make any adjustments or repairs needed by removing worn or damaged parts to install replacements.


• Work as a team member.


• Attend safety Toolbox talks, contribute to the team's safety.

To be considered you must have the following:

• Completed Year 10 education.


• Competent numeracy & literacy skills.


• Current drivers licence and reliable transport.


• Positive attitude.


• General Construction Induction Card (White Card) prior to commencement.


• Commitment to become trade qualified.


• Demonstrated capacity to work as a team member.


• Demonstrated capacity to work safely.

Work Location:

The position can be directed to work anywhere within the Tweed Shire however the depot is based out of the Mechanical and Electrical Facility in Chinderah.

TAFE Requirements:

You will also be required to attend TAFE one day per week in Lismore/Alstonville NSW (Wollongbar TAFE). Travel assistance may be applicable through VTAS funding.
