Job Description

Programmed, in partnership with Tweed Shire Council has an exciting opportunity for a 1st Year New Entrant Electrical Apprentice commencing January 2025.

Programmed are seeking motivated applicants that have a great eye for detail, are technically minded with a strong commitment to safety, have a passion for the electrical industry and the drive to commit to a 4-year apprenticeship.


As a full-time Apprentice, you may be eligible to receive a total of $5,000 in Government incentives under the Australian Apprenticeships Incentive System.


Working as an Electrical Apprentice at Tweed Shire Council may see you completing the following tasks:



  • Read electrical, architectural and mechanical diagrams, drawings or specifications to establish job requirements.

  • Plan the layout of wiring systems.

  • Test for, locate and repair electrical malfunctions.

  • Install electrical and electronic control systems and insulated cables.

  • Assemble and fabricate electrical and electronic components and appliances.

  • Connect electrical equipment to power supplies.

  • Connect switches, outlets and other fittings.

  • Connect circuit breakers.

  • Maintain automated production processes.

  • Work as a team member.

  • Attend safety Toolbox Talks, contribute to the team's safety.


To be considered you must have the following:



  • Completed year 12 education.

  • Competent numeracy and literacy skills.

  • Positive attitude.

  • Current drivers licence and reliable transport.

  • General Construction Induction Card (White Card) prior to commencement.

  • Ideally completed a Cert II in Electrotechnology.

  • Demonstrate enthusiasm for the electrical industry.

  • Demonstrated capacity to work as a team member.

  • Demonstrated capacity to work safely with a zero-harm attitude.


Work location:


The position is based in the Mechanical and Electrical Facility in Chinderah and can be directed to work from any Council work site.


TAFE Requirements:


You will also be required to attend TAFE one day per week in Lismore/Alstonville NSW (Wollongbar TAFE). Travel assistance may be applicable through VTAS funding.
