About us

Ignite Hubs is an education charity for children and young people. Our mission is to inspire the next generation of trailblazers, creative thinkers and digital whizzes by pioneering innovative ways for them to learn, progress and develop new skills, as well as gain connections and practical experiences to help them on their journey into employment.

The Project – Cover of our third STEM Book

Our STEM Career Book series is for children aged 9 to 12 years old. It aims to introduce the world of STEM through storytelling to inspire and encourage children from all backgrounds to talk about roles in STEM and consider them as potential careers.

We are currently working on our third book, which is being written by award-winning author Tamsin Winter. This title will introduce the exciting world of Cyber Security. It follows our previous books, Lucy Green Robotics Queen and Storm Trackers (see link for more details https://www.ignitehubs.org.uk/career-books).

About You

We are looking for a talented and creative Illustrator (budding, emerging or established) to design and illustrate the cover for our next STEM book. The book length is around 120 pages. You will play a key role in bringing the story to life and creating a cover that will appeal to and attract children to pick up the book.

To help promote the book, we are looking for someone who would be willing to take part in interviews, attend the book launch in February 2025, post on social media, etc. These can be discussed and agreed upon.

• Samples or a link to your portfolio, particularly projects aimed at children.
• A CV and brief cover letter.
• A fee proposal for designing the cover.

Please send your application to Books@ignitehubs.org.uk with the subject line “Illustrator”. As we are a small charity, there will be no royalty payments from book sales as all profits go back into the charity to further our work.

Deadline to apply: 31st October 2024

Interviews with short-listed illustrators will take place the first week of November, and we are looking for the cover to be completed by the end of November/early December.

The publication of the book will take place in January/February 2025.
