Senior Legal Counsel - Insurance - Fixed Term Contract
Role: 10-12 Month Fixed Term Contract (Maternity Cover)
Location: London
Salary: Competitive + Bonus + Benefits
WFH: Hybrid Working Model (2 days per week office-based)
Reporting to: Legal Director
Direct Reports: 2 Direct reports
About the role:
12-month maternity cover post with a market-leading Insurance Broker, working in a team of 3 with 2 direct reports. In the position, you will provide legal advice and support to manage legal risk across the company.
Role Responsibilities:
- Provide effective legal advice to manage legal risk across the business.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of relevant laws, regulations and practices in all jurisdictions affecting the business.
- Draft, review and negotiate a range of commercial legal agreements on behalf of the company including templates, contracts, side letters, non-disclosure, consulting, service, recruitment agency agreements, software as service agreements, IT contracts, outsourcing agreements, general terms and conditions, data protection, IP and commercial due diligence.
- Ensure that future changes and developments in legislation, regulations (in conjunction with the Compliance team), and guidelines.
- Ensure that all aspects of legal risk across the business are identified and controlled such as the implementation of new projects, systems and procedures.
- Comply with all external rules and requirements such as Lloyd’s byelaws and FCA rules.
Skills and experience required:
- UK-qualified Solicitor or similar qualification.
- At least 8+ years of relevant PQE ideally within the the insurance industry.
- Broking experience would be beneficial for this role.
- Strong knowledge and understanding of the regulatory landscape in the UK.
- Demonstrable project and transaction management skills.
- Proven commercial skills and a willingness to add value to an in-house environment.
- Attention to detail and high accuracy of work.
