Senior Risk Lawyer
This is an excellent opportunity for a Senior Risk Lawyer to join a leading global law firm's office in London and support the Risk & Compliance Partner and COLP in ensuring risk and compliance assurance across the firm. This role will involve providing support with conflicts, AML, PI, sanctions, data protection, and international risk. The role also supports junior lawyers in the team and works closely with partners to help the firm meet regulatory requirements and access commercial opportunities worldwide.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assisting the Risk & Compliance Partner, Compliance & Conflicts and the COLP with the daily queries which arise regarding the SRA Code, professional standards and best practice, ethics, conflicts, financial crime, supplier contracts and firm and third-party terms and conditions.
- Regularly updating the firms internal professional standards policies.
- Drafting policies and procedures to account for regulatory changes in any of the jurisdictions in which the firm operates.
- Analysing conflict reports and advising on complex conflict-related issues.
- Assisting with data protection queries and processes, and preform an annual review of data protection policies and procedures.
- Reviewing supplier terms, particularly from a data protection perspective.
- Writing and amending terms of engagement with clients in all the jurisdictions in which the firm operates.
- Writing and amending terms of engagement with counsel, foreign lawyers and experts.
- Updating the firm's risk register.
- Resolving escalated conflicts queries, including US conflicts rules.
- Any other ad hoc duties as may be required.
Key Qualifications & Experience:
- England & Wales Qualified Lawyer (6 – 10 years' PQE)
- A minimum of three years' legal compliance experience in an international firm, including dealing with confidentiality and ethics.
- Conflicts and data protection experience essential.
- A detailed knowledge of the SRA Handbook, especially the Code of Conduct.
Excellent written legal skills, including the ability to draft and review policies, procedures, terms of engagement and contracts with third parties.
- Knowledge of data protection, anti-money laundering, sanctions, anti-bribery and corruption, corporate tax evasion and anti-modern slavery rules and application.
