Who You Are
- Substantial experience in motor vehicle technology for cars, light goods vehicles, municipal vehicles, and parks equipment
- Practical experience in general hydraulic, welding, and electrical repairs
- Diagnostic skills in repair and maintenance of various vehicles and equipment
- Flexible approach to work and adaptability to changing environments, including shift patterns
- Ability to work under/on vehicles at varying heights and in confined spaces; capable of accessing inspection pits via ladders
- Experience using computer systems for recording work and checking vehicles' history
- Team player mentality
- Knowledge of workplace health and safety practices
- Commitment to continuous professional development
- Possess City and Guilds part 1, 2, and 3 in motor vehicle maintenance or equivalent qualification
- LGV class C driving licence
- Desirable: Qualified VOSA MOT tester for class 4 and 5A
What the Job Involves
- Servicing, repairing, and maintaining all types of vehicles, plant, and equipment according to scheduled programs
- Conducting risk assessments, creating safe work systems, and performing regular safety inspections on vehicles and equipment
- Liaising with external suppliers for goods and services to ensure cost-effectiveness
- Managing the stores area to maintain stock levels and necessary service/repair items
- Providing roadside assistance and arranging recovery for broken-down vehicles
- Diagnosing faults and specifying necessary repairs for in-house or contractor work
- Performing general electrical work, welding, fabrication, and minor repairs on fleet vehicles and equipment
- Reporting damage, ensuring repairs under warranty, and inspecting returned vehicles from contractors for quality and safety
- Carrying out statutory testing of light goods vehicles and cars, issuing certificates, and handling related fees
- Conducting seatbelt checks on passenger vehicles as per VOSA regulations
- Inspecting new, hired, or added vehicles and equipment, filling out data sheets, and performing MOT tests
- Advising on conditions and visually inspecting MOT and workshop equipment before use
- Maintaining a clean, tidy, and safe workplace and performing steam cleaning as needed
- Working according to the shift system with prior notice and consultation
- Ensuring compliance with Health and Safety policies and contributing to a safe working environment
