Assistant Controller

Job Summary:

As the Assistant Controller you will be responsible for providing financial data to management and external users and assisting the Senior Director of Finance with managing the Accounting department. Responsibilities include conducting system maintenance, General Ledger account reconciliation, and ownership of accurate and timely month-end close processes to support Mason Companies' operational processes. Responsibilities also include assisting in the preparation of monthly and annual financial statements and cross-functional collaboration to ensure inventory accuracy and control adherence. The role requires an ability to work in multiple systems to provide data-driven compliance and reporting in accordance with Mason Companies' accounting practices.

What you'll need:
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field
  • CPA certification preferred
  • 7+ years of progressively more responsible accounting experience, specific cost accounting experience preferred
  • Demonstrated experience working with complex data from multiple sources
  • Experience using accounting systems; Oracle EBS strongly preferred
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel; subject-matter expertise preferred
  • Excellent analytical and time management skills
  • Strong ability to translate data into user-friendly, comprehensive reports
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Ability to test, troubleshoot and perform quality assurance to ensure data accuracy
  • Passionate about the accuracy of data and its value to inform business decisions
  • Strong critical thinking skills with aptitude to isolate and fix technical issues related to the flow of data
  • Self-motivated and directed; ability to proactively take initiative to ensure completion of deadline-driven deliverables
  • Willingness and ability to quickly learn systems and processes
  • Ability to present data effectively to a variety of audiences
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
What you'll do:
  • Perform established month-end close procedures, ensuring timely delivery of accurate information; recommend process improvements where appropriate to increase efficiency.
  • Generate daily, monthly, and quarterly reports for multiple users to assist in analysis and operational effectiveness.
  • Collaborate with IT to ensure sources of general ledger activity are complete, accurate and timely.
  • Verify daily reports generated are accurate and processed without errors.
  • Review transactions, invoices, fees, and deposits to prepare necessary accrual entries.
  • Prepare year-end workpapers and assist with annual financial statement audit.
  • Coordinate year-end inventory processes and support regular fulfillment center cycle counts.
  • Coordinate physical inventory counts and provide costing support to the Retail Store.
  • Develop business processes and tools used to streamline data collection and activities to ensure the highest level of data integrity.
  • Review freight invoices to ensure accurate billing and corresponding payment.
  • Support the organization's forecasting and budgeting process.
  • Prepare and analyze financial statements and reports for multiple users.
  • Analyze and respond to questions from business partners regarding deviations from budgets during the monthly closing process.
