About the role
We are looking for an employee with a strong understanding of anatomy and magnetic resonance imaging. You will create 3D images of human body tissues on a computerized MRI scanner via magnetic fields and radio frequencies to help locate internal injuries and diagnose diseases. People with good interpersonal skills and a desire to use technology for patient care will thrive in this role.
Supervision Received: Reports to Manager of Diagnostics
Supervision Exercised: None.
Typical Physical Demands: Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination for operation and repair of all department equipment. Lifts and carries items weighing up to 50 pounds. Requires eyesight correctable to 20/20 to operate equipment and view digital images.
Typical Working Conditions: Frequent exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, medicinal preparations and other conditions common to a clinic environment.
Responsibilities: (This list may not include all of the duties assigned.)
- Exhibits a working knowledge of principles, practice and procedures involved in the operation of MRI equipment to produce three-dimensional images to accurately demonstrate anatomy, physiology, and pathology.
- Prepare patients for procedures by providing clear instructions and answering questions to reduce anxiety.
- Strong attention to detail, when taking patients medical histories and when asking safety questions.
- Position patients according to established protocols, so desired anatomy will be demonstrated. Assumes responsibility for the safety, mental, and physical comfort of patients.
- Selecting software options and imaging parameters on the MRI machine.
- Initiate patient IVs and administer oral and IV contrast material.
- Recognizes changes in patient status and appropriately communicates to nurse and/or physician.
- Provides documentation of individual patient care according to history and clinical information.
- Performs tube warm-ups and calibrations daily. Quality assurance documentation and quality control protocols as directed.
- Anticipates and recognizes safety hazards, legal liabilities and intervenes through appropriate channels.
- Adheres to department policies. Provides and promotes quality care in accordance with office policies and procedures.
- Establishes and maintains effective communication and working relationship with co-workers, patients, radiologists and other employees of the department and office.
- Exhibits ability to use professional and ethical judgment and critical thinking to problem-solve, prioritize and evaluate patient care activities.
- Accepts and supports learning needs of new staff.
- Performs procedures requiring independent judgement with ingenuity and initiative.
- Evaluates equipment break-downs and assesses the need for service.
- Responsible for appropriately charging for procedures performed.
- Works with Radiology Work List (RIS) and PACS system.
- Maintains area and equipment in a clean, orderly fashion, and follows infection control and safety guidelines.
- Demonstrates continuous self-improvement through utilization of knowledge gained in clinical experience in MRI.
- Participates in in-service education, safety classes, staff meetings and other continuing education programs maintain optimal technical knowledge.
- Participates in continuing education and in-services outside Physicians East, P.A. office as required to maintain MRI certification.
- Maintains yearly CPR certification.
Location & commitments
Permanent PT role based at our Greenville (Arlington) location, Tuesday – Thursday, 4 p.m.. – 8 p.m. Extra hours may be required to ensure patients are taken care, tasks are completed, and calls are returned in a timely manner. Weekend work is rare but can occasionally be necessary.
Candidate requirements: Associate’s degree in radiologic technology; additional completion of MRI technology certificate program. Registered or registry eligible in Magnetic Resonance through ARRT. Two years of clinical experience preferred.
