Lead Product Engineer

JOB DESCRIPTION: Job Title: Lead Product Engineer Employment Type: 12 months Contract, Hybrid Work Location: Johannesburg, CBD JOB CONTEXT: Are you a strong Cobol resource ready to thrive in a high-pressure environment? We're seeking a talented individual to support South Africa's Domestic Low Value Payments systems. In this collaborative environment, you'll work alongside a high-functioning team and gain exposure to all areas of the bank and the broader banking industry. Your role will focus on system maintenance and support while also engaging in smaller development tasks. You'll have the opportunity to contribute to enhancing system stability and efficiency, with ongoing efforts to modernize components. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Strong problem solving. You need to be able to not only identify possible or real problems but also be adept in finding solutions to the problems with a focus on simple yet strategic solutions. Confident and proficient in your field. If you dont know you should be able to find the information and good negotiation skills to deal with other people and teams. Risk identification and risk management Stakeholder engagement. Positive influence within our team. Problem resolution, enhancements, maintenance of the systems, standby. TECHNICAL SKILLS REQUIRED: AWS, Java, Spring Boot, and Angular. Strong understanding of concepts like high availability and their application in software development. Familiarity with SWIFT standards and their integration into financial systems. Proficiency in Kubernetes, Docker, and CI/CD practices. Experience with Rancher, Trace Transformer, and Postgres will be highly regarded. MANDATORY SKILLS: Cobol (minimum 7 years experience). JCL DB2 Batch and online processing. BENEFICIAL SKILLS: IMS. Easytrieve. Payments experience. Understanding of General Ledger. Data Archiving (Hadoop and AWS Athena/Amber) PACKAGE & REMUNERATION: Compensation will be determined based on qualifications, applicable banking experience, and previous earnings.
