Job Description
POSITION: School RN / LPN
MAIN LOCATION: As Assigned
SUPERVISOR: Director of Professional Development
POSITION SUMMARY:
To function under the direction of the Certified School Nurse (CSN) to implement assigned and delegated duties of the school health program. This may include screenings, record keeping, and/or treating ill or injured students and staff.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Follows all laws, regulations, rules and procedures, and complies with the instructions and/or directives from his/her supervisor(s).
Works independently in applicable/assigned settings.
Checks for messages or materials requiring immediate attention.
Requests clarification of school rules and procedures if necessary.
Maintains the established routines and procedures of the school nurse's office.
Provides emergency care in case of sudden illness and administers first-aid in case of injury to students or staff according to established policies and procedures.
Notifies Principal or his/her designee to arrange for immediate examination of any pupil who appears to be under the influence of alcohol or other drugs.
Performs other duties within the scope of his/her employment and certification as may be assigned.
CRITICAL SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Demonstrated expertise in school health nursing practice and emergency procedures.
Knowledge of child growth and development, community and family dynamics, current health issues and wellness education.
Must possess excellent skills in dealing with coworkers, supervisors, students, and school staff.
Must pay attention to detail and consistently demonstrate sound problem-solving skills.
Is self-motivated and displays initiative.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Must be able to remain in a stationary position for prolonged periods of time.
Must be able to travel to and from job-related locations as necessary.
Must be able to withstand changes in environmental conditions inside and outside of the work facility, and to adapt to these changes.
Must be able to access all work areas and locations.
Must be able to lift as required.
