Building Performance Associate Consultant

Bristol, Cardiff, Exeter or Plymouth


We are currently recruiting for a Building Performance Associate to join our Performance Group.


The Performance Group was formed in 2014 and is the hub around which our knowledge and understanding of how buildings truly perform is centred. The current primary focus of the group is to help clients deliver on their Net Zero Carbon aspirations. The role


We are looking for someone who can provide a lead role in an integrated project design team with other construction professionals and act in a professional, personable and competent manner.


We are seeking a person who can positively Lead a project team and proactively support and motivates project team members while delivering to demanding timescales.


You will be involved in the following:


  • Delivering net zero carbon on existing buildings.
  • Managing a portfolio of projects.
  • Dealing successfully with Clients and other professionals.
  • Advising and assisting clients on their journey to improved building performance.
  • Offering advice on building system optimisation and energy consumption.
  • Attending site to problem solve both engineering and procedural problems.
  • Actively promoting all services offered by HL to assist Client's projects.
  • Defining and agreeing brief with Client.
  • Taking ownership and contributing towards delivering profitable schemes.
  • Competently representing Hoare Lea at project meetings.
  • Managing and prioritising the workload of a project team including specialist groups.
  • Contributing to the professional development of individual team members.
  • Effectively delegating, managing and checking work undertaken by others.
  • Developing effective relationships.
  • Monitoring project expenditure and reporting to team leader.
  • Ensuring quality standards and technical accuracy is delivered.
  • Identifying and highlighting risks to business.
  • Actively sharing technical knowledge across the firm.
  • Effectively reporting and openly communicating at all levels internally and externally.
  • Takings responsibility for achieving design objectives.
  • Manages and motivate colleagues within the HL team.
  • Reports cost and resource requirements to the team leader on a regular basis.
  • Gets involved in industry initiatives designed to promote the importance of building performance.


What we are looking for


Someone with

  1. Excellent client relationship management.
  2. An understanding and interest in building users.
  3. A passion for finding out how buildings perform and how they can be improved
  4. The ability to comfortably engage with stakeholders at different levels.
  5. The ability to adapt to different projects and tasks.


Someone who is

  1. qualified and recognized in industry preferably with Chartered status
  2. Interested in zero carbon buildings.
  3. Comfortable in a fast moving and dynamic team.
  4. A creative problem solver able to think outside of the box


Someone who has

  1. a good understanding of other disciplines
  2. Excellent written and spoken English skills
  3. Excellent organisational and planning skills to effectively work to timescales and deadlines
  4. In-depth relevant industry experience
  5. A positive can-do attitude.
  6. Enthusiasm for the role.
  7. Previous experience of energy consumption or building controls
  8. Strong data analysis skills.
  9. Experience of mentoring junior members of staff.
  10. an understanding of project fee expenditure and resourcing.
