Residential Construction Controller

A highly respected and growing residential home builder is looking for a Controller with talent, initiative and drive to join their team. Qualified candidates will have 5+ years' experience in an accounting leadership role. As a leader in the residential homebuilding industry, we are looking to hire quality people and provide them with outstanding opportunities for professional growth in a supportive team-oriented environment. Controller Responsibilities:
  • Report financial results in conformity with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) along with financial and accounting policies.
  • Must fully understand all aspects of the computerized accounting system deployed in the operating divisions and utilize the system to its full capabilities.
  • Support the Sr. Controller in the preparation and accuracy of all Corporate financial reporting and projections.
  • Take responsibility for banking activities that fall upon the Assistant Controller and must be executed in accordance with company policies and procedures.
  • Interpret and review all cash flow projections.
  • Maintain and prepare timely loan and cash status internal reporting.
  • Review Monthly/Quarterly/Annual Corporate, Bank, Investor and Financial reporting of cash position, loan status, loan covenant tracking, and investor waterfall calculations.
  • Mentor the accounting team with strong leadership and conduct regularly scheduled training.
  • Monitor cash flow and reserve levels, to ensure that all lender, investor, legal and regulatory requirements are met.
  • Maintain current knowledge of organizational policies and procedures, federal and state policies and directives, and current accounting standards.

Controller Qualification:
  • Bachelors in accounting, finance, or related field, required.
  • 5+ years of experience in general accounting. Homebuilding or construction background preferred.
  • In-depth knowledge of accounting principles, practices, methods, and procedures.
  • Strong analytical, statistical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Extensive knowledge in MS Office Suite. Advanced level of proficiency with Excel. Newstar experience a plus.
  • Ability to provide leadership and motivate employees to accomplish business objectives.
  • Ability to analyze complex business processes and recommend cost effective opportunities.
