Job Description

Position: Enterprise Fire and Security Business Development Manager

Salary Range: £55,000-75,000 basic + company car or car allowance.

On Target Earnings (OTE): £100,000

Overview:

We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Business Development Manager to join our expanding Enterprise Sales Team, specialising in the Fire or Security sector. These roles offer a competitive base salary, generous car allowance, and significant earning potential.

The ideal candidates will be highly skilled in either the fire or security domain (not necessarily both), with strong public sector sales experience, preferably in healthcare or education verticals. However, applicants with relevant experience from other sectors are also encouraged to apply. This is an exciting opportunity to join a high-performing team.

Key Responsibilities:

Strategic Business Development:

  • You will play a key role in driving business growth by developing, managing, and expanding relationships with key end-user clients in the public sector, with a focus on healthcare, education, and potentially other sectors such as finance and hospitality. The role requires a consultative approach to sales, focusing on long-term relationship building.

Pipeline Growth and Management:

  • A successful candidate understands that establishing a pipeline in this sector requires patience and perseverance, often taking 1-2 years to fully develop. You will be expected to generate, nurture, and close sales opportunities, working closely with both internal technical teams and external stakeholders. It is essential to demonstrate persistence, creativity, and dedication as you cultivate relationships and build a solid client base.

Sales Ownership & Self-Generation:

  • You will have a high degree of autonomy and will be expected to self-generate leads through networking, research, and a deep understanding of your client’s needs. In addition, you will be responsible for managing the full sales cycle, from initial contact through to deal closure. This includes preparing proposals, quoting, budgeting, and offering support with design and surveying when required.

Technical Expertise:

  • While not expected to be a technician, you will need to possess a solid understanding of either the fire or security products and solutions in order to independently consult with clients, provide technical insights, and help define the best solutions for their specific needs. This involves being able to confidently discuss technical specifications, understand the intricacies of system design, and guide clients through the decision-making process.

Desired Skills & Experience:

Industry Knowledge (Fire or Security):

  • Expertise in either fire or security solutions is essential. You should have a proven track record of selling products or services in one of these domains, with the ability to speak confidently about technical elements and the broader market landscape.

Public Sector Sales Experience:

  • Previous experience selling into the public sector is highly desirable. An understanding of procurement processes, budget cycles, and regulatory requirements in these industries is a key advantage.

Relationship Building & Networking:

  • This role is highly relationship-driven, and the ability to foster trust and build long-term partnerships is essential. You will need to demonstrate experience in building strong rapport with stakeholders at all levels within client organisations, including procurement officers, decision-makers, and technical teams.

Results-Oriented & Self-Motivated:

  • A successful BDM in this role will be highly self-motivated and results-driven, with a passion for exceeding targets. Given the long sales cycles in this sector, you must be prepared to put in the groundwork and nurture relationships that will pay off in the long term.

Autonomous & Resourceful:

  • You should be able to work autonomously, generating your own leads and managing your time effectively. This requires a high level of initiative and problem-solving ability. Support will be provided by the broader sales and technical teams, but you will need to demonstrate the ability to take full ownership of your role.

Design & Survey Support:

  • A technical mindset is crucial, as you will be expected to assist with design and surveying in the early stages of projects. This includes evaluating customer requirements, providing initial assessments, and collaborating with internal design and engineering teams to ensure solutions meet client needs.

What's On Offer:

Competitive Salary & Benefits:

  • We offer a highly competitive basic salary of £55,000-75,000 depending on experience, with a company car or car allowance as well as a generous OTE of £100,000 based on performance.

Career Development & Growth:

  • As part of an expanding team, you will be joining a high-growth environment with significant opportunities for professional development and career advancement. This is an exciting time to join the team as we continue to invest in our people and our products.

Supportive & Collaborative Team Environment:

  • You will work closely with a dedicated team of sales, technical, and support professionals, all focused on driving success. Regular training and development opportunities will ensure you stay at the forefront of industry trends and product innovations.
