Senior Buyer

£35,000 - £45,000 (dependent upon experience)

An experienced buyer or procurement specialist for an exciting new role

Who We are

Ross Handling is the largest independent distributor of Castors and Wheels in the UK. An established family business for over 50 years, we pride ourselves in having over 5000 stock items that are available for delivery next day.

Job Summary

The Buyer role, reporting straight to the Directors, is a senior level management position responsible for the procurement of goods from suppliers based in UK, Europe and further afield. This is a strategic role within the business and you will make hands on decisions, negotiating with suppliers, managing inventory and a sizeable budget, to contribute to the ambitious growth plans.


Key Responsibilities

  • Buying of all goods and components from UK, Europe and further afield
  • Manage of freight globally, into the UK, and ensure all paperwork is timely and accurate
  • Building and maintaining relationships with suppliers, in person or over the phone to ensure consistent quality and service
  • Skilled negotiator to achieve the best deals from new and existing suppliers
  • Deliver against KPI’s relating to cost, spend, stock valuation, carriage, product quality and supplier service and communicating our position with Directors on regular basis
  • Being a part of strategic decisions, using strong analytical skills
  • Identify cost and efficiency savings, and implement them
  • Inventory management to maintain optimum stock levels, prevent shortages, or excesses
  • Managing and maintaining accurate bill of materials on Sage stock and manufacturing system
  • Collaborate with warehouse, finance, marketing and sales departments
  • Conduct supplier audits and assessments in line with ISO9001


What Skills and Experience we prefer

  1. Proven experience as a Buyer looking for the next step in their career
  2. Excellent analytical and negotiation skills
  3. CIPS qualification
  4. Excellent organisational and inventory management abilities
  5. Strong communicator at all levels
  6. IT literacy, with Sage 200 experience preferred
  7. Aptitude in decision-making and working with numbers.
  8. Good understanding of market dynamics and sound business judgement.
  9. Ability to gather and analyse data and work with figures.

  • Base salary £35,000 to £45,000 depending upon experience
