Business Wales - Business Development Advisor

Contract: Business Wales

Term: Permanent

Salary: £37,000 to £40,000 per annum

Location: Regular Home worker

Hours: 37.5 hours per week

Candidates must be living in Wales and be a Welsh Speaker for this postion

Business in Focus is the lead delivery partner in Enterprise Partnership Cymru (EPC), along with Menter Mn, M-SParc and an eco-system of support agencies across Wales. EPC has won the contract to deliver the Business Wales service on behalf of the Welsh Government, providing advice and support to entrepreneurs pan Wales.

The Business Development and Growth Service focuses on providing a wide range of advice to growing businesses through a variety of means including digital, telephone and face to face support.

EPC was successful in their bid to deliver both Business Wales advice services; Entrepreneurship and Start-up Service and Business Development and Growth Service.

Client enquiries go through a diagnostic process with Business Support Assessors. Business Development Advisors, support trading SMEs, that have been identified with the potential for growth to:

  • Building effective strategies, preparing robust business plans/models, futureproofing new opportunities and developing employee capability, financial management, and being investment ready.
  • Overcoming issues/barriers with planning and illustrating an action plan that identifies appropriate support from the BW ecosystem and digital resources.

Responsibilities

  1. Working closely with Business Support Assessors who conduct the Growth diagnostic, identify opportunities in allocated client business for growth. Identify and agree specific objectives with the client that you support with, e.g. overcoming a barrier, developing ideas into a business plan, accessing finance. The agreed objectives must be aligned to the client achieving growth and make effective use of digital resources available.
  2. Support clients achieve the agreed objectives by developing their skills and knowledge, enabling their capability. Manage client relationship to maintain momentum towards the agreed goals and KPI outcomes, managing client expectations as progress is made and support concludes.
  3. Monitor client activity and progress to maximise KPIs and value-added outcomes.
  4. Ensure client support hours are signed off and delivered effectively to progress agreed actions and achieve KPIs. Accurately record all activity with clients, evidencing in the necessary digital paperwork, in compliance with contractual requirements and operational procedures

Person Specification

  1. Welsh Speaking Essential
  2. Running your own business or Proven experience of working in a growth business OR Delivering business advice* to a diverse portfolio of businesses.
  3. Excellent knowledge and understanding of business and related good practice, and how to effectively apply to small and medium sized businesses.
  4. Significant understanding and experience of financial management information in a diverse range of businesses, sectors and/or industries.
  5. Good knowledge and understanding of the needs and issues impacting SMEs in Wales, the economy in Wales and wider influences in the UK. Understanding of local / regional differences in the Welsh economy
  6. Valid UK driving license and use of vehicle to travel in region on a regular basis to fulfil duties, e.g. attending events, meetings
