An opportunity has arisen to join the City of London’s (CoL) Department of Communities and Children Services as the Rough Sleeping Adult Social Worker. The post is joint funded by the Homelessness Prevention & Rough Sleeping Team and the Adult Social Care (ASC) budget. The City’s ASC team and Homelessness team will jointly manage and support the development of this role, which will further strengthen the integrated approach taken to support some of the most vulnerable adults in the square mile.

The successful candidate will have applied social worker experience and have at least a keen interest and knowledge of the homelessness sector. The role will require you to provide a comprehensive and informed social work service to rough sleepers and those experiencing homelessness. You will have a flexible approach to working with rough sleepers and work collaboratively with City colleagues and external support services.

The right candidate for this role will deliver excellent social work practice, assessing individual needs, producing comprehensive plans and work purposefully with a small caseload. Further to this partnership work with support networks and other professionals is essential to manage risk, safeguard vulnerable people and promote positive outcomes.

The post holder will work collaboratively with the teams and the Homelessness Strength Based Practitioner, who will report directly to you. The Strength Based Practitioner provides enhanced and personalised support to those on your shared caseload for timed intervention while transitioning from temporary to more longer term accommodated. For some individuals this is a very unfamiliar experience after living on the streets for many years.

Further to this you will provide a social work service which is both relationship-based and which responds in a timely manner within statutory guidelines. You will support the development of best practice and confident practitioners through coaching and mentoring of student social workers and less experienced practitioners.

Please be aware this role may occasionally require the applicant to attend early morning or late evening outreach shifts when working with clients from the streets.

Closing date: 12 noon on Monday 7 October 2024.

Interviews will be held on 21/22 October 2024.
