Gardener

VACANCY: GARDENER REQUIRED IN WEST SUSSEX

A private family require a permanent full-time Gardener for their estate in Pulborough, West Sussex. The Gardener would assist in all aspects of maintaining and improving the gardens and estate.

Role and responsibilities:

Assist in the maintenance of beds and borders including mulching, feeding, weeding, pruning and staking.

• Assist in maintaining lawns to a high standard, including operation of pedestrian and ride on mowers, general lawn maintenance (i.e. cutting and redefining edges, feeding, aeration and scarification). Also assisting in lawn repairs and any lawn establishment tasks that appear e.g. turfing and sowing grass seed.

Assist in cutting and maintaining hedges, trees and shrubs throughout the grounds and gardens.

Assist in the maintenance of the garden ponds including checking levels, removing debris and cutting back

Assist in maintaining the wider estate including strimming, clearing ditches, meadows, orchards ,newly planted woodland and maintaining the lakes

Carry out any other tasks that may reasonably be required by the owners and their senior staff

Assisting in the kitchen garden and greenhouses

Assisting in propagation

Requirements:

Plant/shrub knowledge essential, preferably with rhs or similar qualifications.

Knowledge and experience of using a range of tools including ride on and pedestrian mowers, hedge cutters, strimmers , blowers etc.

Knowledge and experience of working as a professional gardener preferably on a private estate.

Knowledge and experience in vegetable/kitchen garden is preferable (i.e. growing and caring for fruit, vegetable, salad and herb crops).

Attention to detail, can do attitude, excellent time keeping skills and the ability to work alone effectively using own initiative and with others as required.

Fit and able to work in all weather conditions across a verity of terrains.

Working hours are 8am to 5pm, 5 days a week (Monday to Friday)

Competitive salary offered depending on experience.
