Behaviour Change Support Worker

Key elements of the role:

• Identify and assess the risks and needs of individuals who are abusive in a relationship or other domestic setting, using an evidence-based risk identification checklist.
• Develop personalised risk assessments and safety plans for each service user.
• Advocate for individuals who wish to address their abusive behaviour.
• Support the client to recognise the abusive behaviour and the effect that it has on their families;assist them in recognising the features and dynamics of domestic abuse present in their situation and help them change unhealthy patterns of behaviour.
• Understand multi-agency partnership structures and work within a multi-agency setting.

Qualifications and Skills:

• An understanding of the nature of domestic abuse and its effects on adult victims and children.
• An understanding of why people use abusive behaviours in relationships, along with the range of models used in addressing this behaviour.
• An understanding of risk factors in perpetrators of domestic abuse.
• An understanding of the criminal justice system in relation to domestic violence.
• An understanding of the child protection system.
• Experience of providing one-to-one or group work with people to effect change.
• Experience of working with victims or perpetrators of domestic abuse.
• Ability to communicate clearly with a range of people, sometimes over sensitive and/or complex issues.
