Job Description

Working Days and Hours:

  • Working pattern to be agreed with the line manager
  • 37 to 40 hours per week across 7 days
  • Weekend work is mandatory (preferably 1 in 2, but a minimum of 1 in 3)
  • Overtime likely available

Role Overview:We are seeking a hands-on Area Supervisor to join our local authority on a temporary basis. This role involves daily travel to the Councils Recycling and Household Waste Sites (RHWSs) and Waste Transfer Stations (WTSs) to perform various HR-related tasks, including:

  • Supporting the onboarding process for new starters
  • Conducting one-to-ones, return-to-work interviews, and low-level policy discussions
  • Delivering training through workbooks and e-learning support
  • Developing and delivering toolbox talks and other training packages/safety briefings
  • Monitoring and enforcing the Councils safe systems of work and risk assessments
  • Ensuring accurate records for waste movements
  • Monitoring and enforcing the Councils Quality Management System
  • Issuing and recording PPE and uniforms
  • Handling low-level complaints from customers face-to-face, by telephone, and by email

The role may also require driving a Council 3.5 tonne box van from time to time.

Requirements:

Essential:

  • Good IT skills
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Good numeracy and literacy skills
  • Experience dealing with customers
  • Experience line managing multiple staff
  • Experience delivering training packages
  • Valid UK drivers licence for driving up to a 3.5 tonne vehicle
  • Access to own vehicle and insurance to cover business use
  • HR experience

Desirable:

  • Valid and relevant Certificate of Technical Competence with evidence of continued competence
  • Experience driving a vehicle up to 3.5 tonnes

Additional Information:

  • PPE and some uniform requirements will be provided, including the potential wearing of a Body Worn Camera (BWC). The BWC will only record and make footage available for download if activated by the holder. This is part of the uniform for all field-based staff unless reasonable adjustments are considered.
  • Mileage claims will be based on a standard commute mileage from an agreed primary RHWS (likely one of Barwell, Coalville, Loughborough, Market Harborough, Melton, Mountsorrel, or Oadby) closest to the candidates residence. Claims can be made for mileage above the standard commute.
