Systems Engineering Architect

Permanent- Full Time - Senior

Location: Wiltshire (2 days per week on-site)

Salary: Competitive Salary + Package + Bonus

Our client is a leading provider of innovative solutions across the engineering, systems, and technology sectors. Working with a range of clients across defence and government. As part of a unique expansion into the space and satellite communications domain, we are seeking a talented and experienced Systems Engineering Architect to join a prestigious UK Space programme.


Role Overview:

As a Systems Engineering Architect, you will lead the design, development, and integration of complex engineering systems.

You will play a pivotal role in shaping technical solutions, influencing the design and architecture of critical systems, and ensuring project success.

The role is ideal for someone with significant experience across the full systems lifecycle, particularly within space, satellite, Defence or Terrestrial telecommunications domains.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead systems architecture design, modelling, and analysis for space and satellite communications projects.
  • Develop high-level system requirements and technical specifications.
  • Ensure the integration of subsystems and components into complex, multi-faceted systems.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure alignment between customer requirements, design, and functionality.
  • Drive innovation in system designs to enhance performance, reliability, and scalability.
  • Support the full systems engineering lifecycle, from concept through design, development, and deployment.
  • Engage with stakeholders (both internal and external) to ensure technical solutions meet business and project goals.
  • Conduct risk assessments and provide mitigation strategies related to system performance, technology, and security.
  • Stay up to date with advancements in systems engineering, space, and satellite communications technologies.
  • Provide mentoring and technical leadership to junior engineers.


Key Skills & Experience Required:

  • Extensive experience in systems engineering, with a focus on space, satellite communications, telecommunications, or related domains.
  • Strong understanding of systems engineering principles (e.g., requirements engineering, system design, verification & validation).
  • Experience in systems architecture design and development for large-scale, complex systems.
  • Familiarity with satellite communications technologies (e.g., RF communications, satellite networks, ground station systems).
  • Knowledge of industry standards and best practices in space and telecommunications.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work with diverse teams and stakeholders.
  • Ability to navigate the full systems lifecycle from concept through deployment.
  • Knowledge of Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) tools and techniques is an advantage.
  • Defence sector experience is beneficial but not essential.


Qualifications

  • A degree in Systems Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Telecommunications, or a related field. A Master’s degree or PhD would be especially advantageous.
  • Proven experience working on space, satellite, telecommunications, or defence-related projects.
  • Desirable: Chartered Engineer (CEng) status or the ability to work towards it is desirable.
  • Due to the security nature of this role, SC level clearance will be required. The holding or eligbility to obtain DV level clearance would be advantageous.
