Responsible for performing venipuncture and related procedures under the philosophy, policies, and procedures established by the office. Must be able to develop a kind and patient rapport with the physician’s patients. Occasionally assists with back-office procedures. Brings patients back to the chemotherapy room as needed. Maintains a steady and productive work pace.

• Be able to draw routine blood samples within 5 minutes and difficult cases in 15 minutes.
• Ability to understand instruction, reason, and make judgments in establishing test protocols.
• Keep all work areas clean, organized, well stocked and uncluttered.
• Ability to understand the meaning of words, ideas associated with them, and their effective use in evaluating test requests.
• Maintain lab machine by turning on and off each day and running procedures as needed.
• Maintain logs of labs that have gone out.
• Maintain temperature logs of the refrigerator.
• Take patient vitals as needed.
• Pull charts and deliver reports to physicians as needed.
• Ability to perform arithmetic operations quickly and accurately.
• Ability to move hands and fingers easily and skillfully in the performance of phlebotomy services.
• Use lab computers as needed to order tests and obtain results.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
• High School diploma or equivalent.
• 2-3 years’ experience in a medical facility
• Medical assistant or phlebotomy certification preferred.
• Experience as a phlebotomist in an outpatient setting preferred.
• Must have excellent patient relations skills.
• Handles interruptions and unpredictable situations.
• Must demonstrate good judgment in regard to confidentiality policy.
