Job Description

Job Title: Cyber Security Consultant

Location: Newbury or Stoke-on-Trent (hybrid)

Duration: 3 Months Contract (extendible)


Role Overview: We are seeking a highly skilled Cyber Security Consultant for Telecoms to join the Secure by Design Networks Team. This role is crucial in ensuring the security and integrity of company’s network infrastructure.

You will engage with the business functions to understand their current projects and will ensure that appropriate Cyber Security assessment takes place to support these. You will work with project teams to assess solutions to ensure compliance with the company’s security policies and standards.

The role requires a telecoms focussed background with a wide range of security and network technologies.


Essential Qualifications:

  • Solid understanding of telecoms concepts and traffic flows.
  • Solid understanding of networking concepts and traffic flows.
  • Understanding of how technology choices impact Cyber Security.
  • Ability to scope penetration tests and guide projects on the remediation of identified vulnerabilities.
  • Knowledge of current vulnerabilities and trends in vulnerabilities/threat landscapes.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Strong technical skills, with the ability to adapt in unfamiliar environments.
  • Ability to quickly assimilate knowledge from outside own area of expertise.


Relevant Technology Experience:

  • UK Telecoms Security Act (TSA).
  • Technical security certification such as SCCP/CISSP, or other relevant industry/vendor security accreditations.
  • Mobile Networks (2G/3G/4G/5G) and/or large-scale MPLS networks, and their particular security considerations.
  • Security considerations for Operational Support Systems, IP Telephony, SS7, IMS networks, SMS, MMS, Voicemail, Content Delivery Networks, SDH, DSL, and Microwave.
  • Network security (e.g., VPN/VRF, MPLS, routing protocols, layer 2 and layer 3 security) and network protocols (e.g., TCP/IP, HTTP, TLS, SSH, DNS).
  • Experience of risk management frameworks, threat modelling, and security awareness initiatives.
  • Basic understanding of security standards such as ISO27001, UK Telecommunications Security Act (TSA), and PCI-DSS.
