Job Description

We are seeking a dynamic and adaptable healthcare professional to join our Accident & Emergency (A&E) department as an A&E Streamer on an ad hoc basis. The A&E Streamer will be responsible for the initial assessment and triage of patients presenting to the A&E, ensuring that they receive the most appropriate level of care in a timely manner. This role is crucial for managing patient flow, reducing waiting times, and alleviating pressure on emergency resources. There are sites in Birmingham, Dudley and Walsall.

Key Responsibilities

  • Initial Assessment and Triage: Perform rapid initial assessments of patients upon arrival to determine the severity and urgency of their conditions.
  • Patient Streamlining: Direct patients to the appropriate care pathway, whether it be emergency treatment within A&E, primary care, or other services.
  • Coordination: Liaise with other healthcare professionals to ensure smooth transitions and continuity of care for patients.
  • Documentation: Accurately document patient assessments, decisions, and any interventions performed.
  • Communication: Clearly communicate with patients and their families regarding their care pathway and any next steps.
  • Crisis Management: Respond promptly to any sudden changes in patient condition or unexpected emergencies.
  • Support A&E Team: Provide support to the A&E team during peak times or staff shortages, ensuring efficient and effective patient care.
  • Ad Hoc Duties: Perform other duties as required by the A&E Department Manager to address immediate and unforeseen needs.

Qualifications

  • Education: Registered Nurse (RN), General Practitioner (GP), or equivalent healthcare qualification.
  • Experience: Previous experience in an emergency care setting is highly desirable.
  • License: Valid professional license to practice in UK
  • Skills: Strong clinical assessment skills, excellent communication abilities, and the ability to work under pressure.
  • Attributes: Adaptable, quick thinker, empathetic, and able to manage a high-paced environment.

Work Conditions

  • Schedule: Ad hoc shifts as needed, including evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Environment: Fast-paced and high-pressure emergency department setting.
  • Physical Demands: Ability to perform tasks requiring physical exertion, such as lifting and moving patients.
