Job Description: Typical Duties

Performs corrective, preventive, and emergency maintenance on all PV Solar equipment including but not limited to parts replacement, troubleshooting and other repairs of solar facilities. (65%)

Performs energy isolation in order to complete assigned tasks. (5%)

Prepares and implements switching and clearance orders, while working with Operations Center. (5%)

Ensures work is performed in a safe manner in accordance with Environmental and Safety requirements. (5%)

Performs documenting, testing, adjusting retrofitting and inspecting of solar facilities. (5%)
Fills out and timely submits documentation reports, inspection reports, safety inspections/observations, time sheets, work orders, parts consumption and all other required documentation. (5%)

Maintains areas in neat condition, cleans up work areas and properly disposes waste per company policies. (5%)

Operates and inspects forklifts, trucks and other powered equipment as authorized. (5%)
Must be able to perform work independently and/or in work crews for authorized tasks.

Complete required training.

Performs additional responsibilities as requested or assigned.
Responsibilities: This position is responsible for the maintenance and repair of all electrical generation and distribution equipment associated with the PV Solar equipment. Responsible for troubleshooting instrumentation and calibration of the instruments in a complex distributed control system, inverter troubleshooting and other maintenance work, for which they are qualified to safety and efficiently perform. Overtime, shift work and travel may be required. Work is performed under supervision and direction from the maintenance supervisor.

This is a multi-level posting. Applicants may apply for positions for which they possess at least the minimum education and/or experience. Applicants with experience beyond the minimum will be considered for the advanced levels
Qualifications: Associate Solar Technician

High school diploma or general education degree; with one to three years of experience or related education of power plant operation/maintenance or equivalent education and experience.

Demonstrates basic knowledge of electrical and mechanical fundamentals of PV systems in power facilities.

Solar Technician I

A two-year technical degree or equivalent Journeyman certificate/qualification is preferred. High school diploma or general education degree. (Typically, one year of demonstrated knowledge of one or more years of experience in a power plant or PV Solar Operations/Maintenance /EPC experience is required for candidate applying for this position who do not possess a high school or general education degree.)

Two plus years of field experience with significant experience in one or more of the following: Instrumentation/Electrical, Instrument and Control (I&C), and/or C&I Electrician experience will be considered in lieu of applicable solar experience.

Demonstrates basic knowledge of operational characteristics of equipment and associated control devices installed in power facilities.

Solar Technician II

Possess a two-year technical degree or equivalent Journeyman certificate/qualification and four years of solar field experience. Significant Instrumentation & Electrical experience, Instrumentation & Control and/or C&I Electrician experience will be considered in lieu of applicable solar experience.

Ability to troubleshoot equipment and system problems; detect and correct faulty instruments and control devices; install special or sensitive instruments. Demonstrated knowledge of electrical or mechanical fundamentals (Journeyman skills) such as electrical measurements, control circuits and solid-state theory application.

Effective interpersonal skills and the ability to work independently or as part of a team.

Knowledge of PC software application, including spreadsheet, word processing and database.

Ability to read and interpret documents such as periodicals, electric diagrams, regulations, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence accurately. Ability to communicate orally, use acceptable telephone and radio etiquette necessary to communicate needs.

Ability to calculate figures and amounts, including percentages, area, circumference and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

Effective ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks and projects.

A valid California driver's license is required.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee must have the ability to lift and carry loads up to 70 pounds. It also requires one to be able to climb ladders and steps as high as 60 feet. One must be able to withstand temperatures varying from 400 F to 1200 F for long periods of time. At times it is required to enter a confined area and climb to heights and get into difficult to access areas of equipment to inspect or collect data on plant equipment.

At times the employee is required to sit, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The individual is required to use hands to handle or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms. The employee will be utilizing all the sensory perceptions such as touch, taste, feel, hearing and seeing. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.

While performing the duties of this job the employee works near moving machinery and may be exposed to fumes and airborne particles. Occasionally the employee is exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals as well as loud areas and exposed hot piping.

During performing assigned duties, the employee may be required to work with or be exposed to hazardous substances and occupational hazards. The company will provide the employee with initial training on all known hazardous substances and occupational hazards prior to allowing the employee to perform a particular duty unsupervised. Annual refresher training will also be provided on all known hazards and new hazards as they are identified.
