Food Scientist – Ingredients/Seasonings
North Chicago, IL
Our client is a growing ingredient, seasoning and sauce manufacturer with a plant in North Chicago and another plant in the UK. Based on recent growth, they are building a technical R&D team and need to hire a Food Scientist with ingredient applications experience.
Responsibilities
Candidate must have R&D knowledge and experience working with seasonings, spices and specialty savory ingredients.
Candidate should have experience formulating and ingredient applications from concept through product inception.
Will be the primary lead for development of projects, executing pilot runs and first batch production audits.
Position requires self-discipline, intuitiveness, and the innate ability to want to dive deep into projects and solutions.
Clear, precise communication with multiple levels of people internally and externally daily.
Keeping apprised of industry trends, including but not limited to flavors, ingredients, consumers…
Research and recommendations regarding raw materials, processes, equipment, formulations, etc.…
Responsible for managing the lab, raw materials in the lab, sanitation, and cleanliness of the lab.
Will be responsible for training of new hires pertaining to the department, lab equipment, company, and lab procedures.
The optimal candidate will be the primary lead to the Director of Research & Development/Culinary.
Candidate must have knowledge and experience in formulating from concept through product inception.

Requirements
• Must have technical BS degree in Food Science, Chemistry, Biology or similar science
· Must have at least 3+ years of hands-on, R&D applications experience
• Prefer candidate that have specialty ingredients, seasonings, savoy or similar type ingredient experience
· Must have knowledge of bringing projects from conception to commercialization
• Prefer candidates that have prior experience with consumer trends, translating customer needs/wants into viable solutions/products.
• Must be able to generate ideas and contribute in a creative manner.
• Must have passion to own projects with the ability to adapt quickly, if needed, and problem solve.
• Knowledge of quality standards, food safety and good lab (manufacturing) practices.
• Must possess the following skill sets: Well organized, detail oriented, able to multi-task and prioritize multiple projects/tasks, work well independently and in a team environment, follow policies and procedures and support organization’s goals and values.
Demonstrate a positive and professional demeanor in the workplace with colleagues and customers.
• Ability to problem-solve, pick things up quickly and having great energy are key elements to be a successful team member
