Surgical First Assistant – Wimbledon, London Location: Wimbledon, London Contract: Ad-hoc shifts available periodically Pay Rates: Standard: £44.57 per hour Saturday & Sunday: £46.61 per hour Bank Holidays: £47.00 per hour Role Overview: We are seeking an experienced Surgical First Assistant to join a leading healthcare facility in Wimbledon, London. This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled professional to work flexible shifts in a dynamic surgical environment. Key Responsibilities: Provide direct assistance to surgeons during procedures, ensuring the highest level of patient care. Support with instrument handling, tissue retraction, and haemostasis as required. Ensure aseptic techniques are maintained throughout procedures. Assist in preparing the operating theatre, ensuring all equipment and surgical instruments are correctly set up. Monitor patient condition intraoperatively, reporting any concerns to the surgical team. Participate in post-operative care, including wound dressing and patient monitoring. Work closely with anaesthetists, theatre nurses, and other healthcare professionals to ensure seamless surgical procedures. Adhere to infection control, health & safety, and clinical governance standards. Requirements: Registered Nurse (NMC) or Operating Department Practitioner (HCPC) with valid registration. Recognised Surgical First Assistant qualification. Experience working in theatres as a Surgical First Assistant. Strong understanding of perioperative care and theatre protocols. Ability to work effectively under pressure in a fast-paced environment. Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
