Job Description
Our Counselor position plays a key role in providing compassionate, evidence-based care to our guests through individual and group counseling sessions. This role includes developing psychosocial histories, assessments, personalized treatment plans, and referrals. The Counselor also:
- Documents treatment progress, orientation, discharge, and other relevant records
- Delivers educational materials to guests
- Actively participates in staff training and ongoing performance improvement initiatives
- Demonstrates age-appropriate care skills for diverse client needs
- Facilitates Early Recovery Group sessions as assigned
- Continuously monitors therapy program effectiveness, providing feedback to the Clinical Director
This position requires an individual who can work independently with minimal supervision.
Minimum Education: Master’s Degree in Social Work, Counseling, or Human Services field (Associate Degree accepted for hires prior to 2014).
Preferred Experience: At least 1 year of experience in chemical dependency treatment.
Minimum Licensure/Certification:
- State Certification (preferred licenses include MSW, LCMHC, LCAS, LCSW-A, LCAS-A, LCMHC-A, or CSAC)
- CPR and First Aid certification
- Crisis intervention training, such as NCI+
Key Skills:
- Strong understanding of addiction treatment principles and practices, with proficiency in individual and group therapy
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills and interpersonal abilities
- Knowledge of universal precautions and age-specific care
- Physical ability to lift at least 25 lbs and perform tasks that require hand-eye coordination
- Ability to sit or stand for extended periods
- English language proficiency for effective communication
