Assistant Counsel - Life Insurance Company

A family-owned Life Insurance company is seeking an Attorney to join their team and provide a broad range of legal support across the entire business. This is a generalist role reporting directly to the General Counsel, where you will gain exposure to a wide variety of in-house counsel responsibilities, supporting specialized areas including insurance law, employment, commercial contracts, litigation, and more.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Prepare and review commercial agreements with internal teams, external administrators and other entities
• Support the business and its affiliates in all aspects of legal support in assigned areas of law; ERISA, probate, securities, bankruptcy, tax, etc.
• Conduct legal research and communicate findings to the business to address accordingly
• Investigate insurance claims and handle other matters related to insurance law broadly
• Develop polices and procedures to ensure regulatory compliance
• Coordinate with internal counsel on ad-hoc responsibilities and special projects

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Juris Doctor from an accredited Law School
• Strong contract drafting/review ability
• Insurance experience is not a requirement, but is considered a significant plus
• Strong analytical, interpersonal, and organizational skills
• Verbal and written communication fluency and the ability to work effectively within a team environment
