Paraprofessional - Elementary School
Longmont, CO – On-site Monday-Friday, 35 hours/week
1 year contract with likely extension
Position Summary:
The Elementary School Paraprofessional works closely with teachers to support the academic and social development of students in the classroom. This role involves assisting with instructional activities, reinforcing lessons, and providing individualized or small group support to students. The paraprofessional will play a key role in fostering a positive, inclusive learning environment that helps each child reach their full potential.
Essential Responsibilities:
Instructional Support (50%)
- Assist classroom teachers with the implementation of lessons, activities, and curriculum in accordance with the needs of students.
- Provide one-on-one or small group support to students requiring additional help, especially in core subjects such as reading, math, and science.
- Monitor and assist students with tasks and assignments, ensuring they understand and complete their work.
Classroom Management (20%)
- Help maintain a safe, organized, and productive classroom environment by supporting classroom rules and routines.
- Assist with behavioral management and help implement positive behavior interventions.
- Supervise students during class activities, transitions, recess, and other times to ensure safety and appropriate behavior.
Student Support (15%)
- Work with students who have special needs, including assisting with accommodations outlined in Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) or 504 plans.
- Encourage social interaction and positive peer relationships to foster the social-emotional development of students.
Collaboration & Communication (10%)
- Collaborate with teachers, administrators, and other staff members to discuss student progress and implement appropriate strategies.
- Communicate with parents/guardians as needed to provide updates on student progress or behavior.
Administrative & Clerical Support (5%)
- Assist with the preparation of materials, setting up classroom displays, and maintaining student records.
- Support with routine administrative tasks as directed by the teacher or principal.
Qualifications:
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate's degree or higher preferred.
- Experience: Previous experience working with children, preferably in an educational setting. Experience supporting students with special needs or in a STEM-focused classroom is a plus.
- Skills:
- Ability to work collaboratively with teachers and other staff.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Patience, flexibility, and a positive attitude in working with students of diverse backgrounds and abilities.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and adhere to professional ethical standards.
Work Environment & Physical Demands:
- Physical: Regularly required to talk, hear, stand, walk, and lift up to 10 pounds.
- Work Environment: Classroom setting with occasional remote teaching.
- Mental: Frequent need for communication, problem-solving, and analyzing student data.
