Job Description

Senior Design Engineer required for opportunity with a major vehicle development Company in the Midlands.
As an experienced Design Engineer or Senior Design Engineer, you will be part of the Global Technical Organisation. You will work with cross-functional teams in Industrial Design, Product Development (Powertrain, Electrical, Vehicle Dynamics etc.), Manufacturing and Genuine automotive Accessories but predominantly to deliver solutions to the Vehicle Development Engineering Teams which meet the requirements from all departments to progress to volume production.
As a Design/Senior Engineer your role will involve working with cross-functional teams in Industrial Design, Strategic Sourcing, Quality Assurance and OE
Product Development. At the outset you will be exposed to the design of retail customer facing products
at various points in their product life cycle.
Mutually agreed project timing plan deadlines
Successful drawing release completion
Design systems and components for new and updated accessory projects, considering function,
cost, manufacture, assembly and quality
Produce good quality 3D CAD models using 3D CAD (CREO)
Produce good quality 2D engineering drawings, to ASME Y14.5
Follow and help maintain design, operational and quality procedures
Produce supporting documentation for designs, as required and present these designs in cross
functional team reviews.
Design components and systems to comply with regulatory requirements & RE internal test
procedures where needed
Liaise with internal departments such as, Sourcing, Manufacturing, Quality and Assembly.
Liaise with outside suppliers
Manage their own time and workload effectively
Create and manage timing plans for their areas of responsibility
To work with CAD Designers or contractors allocated to help with creating CAD models
Support testing department with the fixturing & testing of components & motorcycles
Scope and Impact
Design Engineer Role:
Produce high quality 3D CAD models
Produce high quality 2D engineering drawings.
Follow CAD operating procedures and promote best practice in CAD modelling.
Follow the rules and guidelines of the PLM system.
Design systems and components for new and updated chassis projects, considering function,
cost, manufacturing process, assembly and quality.
Design components and systems to comply with regulatory requirements & RE internal test
procedures where needed.
Work with members of the Design Team to ensure models and drawings meet technical and
legislative requirements.
Work with members of the Design Team to ensure aesthetic requirements are met.
Manage workload effectively to ensure models and drawings are completed on time.
Provide CAD modelling guidance to other team members.
Design Engineer Requirements:
Qualified to degree level or equivalent.
Proficient in producing 2D inspection drawings.
Proficient in the use of 3D 3+ years relevant experience in a similar role.
Experience in engineering design of assemblies and sub-assemblies.
In depth experience in 3D CAD design to advanced level.
Manufacturing knowledge (DFM/DFA)
Experience of creating and releasing 2D drawings.
Desirable:
PLM Experience
A CAD specific qualification
