Job Title: Project Planner (High Voltage National Grid Projects)
Location: UK (Remote/On-site as required)
Contract: Freelance - 12 months initially
Rate: Competitive, based on experience
About the Role:
We are seeking an experienced Freelance Project Planner with expertise in high voltage (HV) National Grid projects to join our dynamic team. As a key player in delivering essential infrastructure, you will be responsible for planning, scheduling, and managing timelines for high-profile, complex HV transmission and distribution projects across the UK. This role is critical to ensuring that our projects are delivered on time, within scope, and in compliance with industry standards and National Grid specifications.
Key Responsibilities:
* Develop and maintain detailed project schedules for high voltage National Grid infrastructure projects, including substations, overhead lines, and cable installations.
* Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and stakeholders to ensure alignment of project timelines with strategic objectives.
* Conduct regular progress monitoring and update project plans to reflect changes, mitigating delays and adjusting resource allocation as necessary.
* Risk management: Identify potential risks to the schedule and provide recommendations to address or mitigate them.
* Produce progress reports and communicate schedule updates to senior management and key stakeholders, ensuring visibility of project status.
* Ensure full compliance with National Grid standards, health and safety regulations, and project governance.
* Utilize industry-standard planning tools such as Primavera P6, MS Project, or equivalent software.
Key Requirements:
* Proven experience in project planning, specifically in high voltage (HV) projects for the National Grid or similar.
* Strong working knowledge of Primavera P6 and/or MS Project.
* Familiarity with the UK’s National Grid governance, safety standards, and operational procedures.
* Excellent understanding of HV substations, transmission lines, and related infrastructure.
* Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and adapt to changing priorities.
* Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to liaise effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
* A proactive, problem-solving mindset with a focus on delivering high-quality results on time.
Qualifications:
* Degree or equivalent qualification in Engineering, Project Management, or a related field.
* Professional accreditation such as APM, PMI, or equivalent is desirable.
* Previous experience working on National Grid Transmission Owner (TO) or Distribution Network Operator (DNO) projects is highly advantageous.
